Andrea Gleason, is one of the founding Partners of sheJAMs, the Event Director for the Maine Yoga Fest and the owner of Scarborough Yoga. She is a USA Triathlon Certified Level 1 Coach and a RYT 200 hr. Yoga Teacher. In all aspects of life, there is a Yin and a Yang. The cool and the warm, the moon and the sun, the calm and the active. In our bodies, we have Yin and Yang components requiring distinct kinds of exercise. The Yang components are elastic, and like movement, like muscles.
We know how to exercise these. Walk, bike, run, swim, jump, we move. But if you were to exercise the Yin parts of your body, your more plastic like or inelastic tissues the same way they wouldn’t like it. Your joints and ligaments and connective tissues or fascia, like long slow holds. (Think braces) By settling into a posture for 3-5 minutes, just to your edge of resistance you stress these parts of your body in productive way. Encouraging hydration, more space and range of motion.
